Day One of the WINSTONgolf Senior Open 2024
Schwerin/Vorbeck – Perfect late summer weather for the 55 professionals and five proettes at today’s start of the WINSTONgolf Senior Open 2024 on the WINSTONopen course. Overall, the field is still close together. The Scot Gary Orr was able to make the most of the top-class conditions, playing a strong opening round of 67 and topping the leaderboard: “It felt tough at the beginning today. Then I played my first birdie on the 18th, which was the 9th hole for me. After that, I had a little run and holed several birdie putts. Birdies are important, but so is staying bogey-free. I putted really well today!”
Patrik Sjöland and Andrew Marshall follow with a 68, and Phillip Archer and Adilson da Silva with three under par (69). Austria’s Markus Brier and André Bossert from Switzerland are tied for 6th place, each with two under par (70). Thomas Gögele is the best German with a 71, and is currently tied 14th.
Andrew Oldcorn (WSO winner in 2016) had a ‘wild’ round: a 10 on the 9th hole (par 5) was followed by a birdie and a hole-in-one on the 11th. In the end, he put a 74 on the scorecard. The five ladies in the field also all played over par: Stefania Croce (+3), Rebecca Hudson (+4), Patricia Beliard (+5), Catrin Nilsmark (+5) and Elisabeth Esterl (+11).

The combination of experienced professionals together with amateurs creates a very special atmosphere. Our event thrives on the diversity and spirit that both sides bring to the course. A perfect weekend for golf enthusiasts is on the cards: Tomorrow, the professional players will again each be playing together with an amateur as teams of two. The tournament starts at 09.00 hrs. from tee 1 and tee 10, and admission is free on all tournament days. The bicycle manufacturer Kalkhoff, the tournament’s main sponsor, will present the latest e-bike models on a large promotional truck. Plenty of free-of-charge car parking spaces are also available.
