WINSTONgolf Senior Open 2024: The “Battle of the Sexes” enters the next round!

From 20 – 22 September, the stars of the Legends Tour will once again compete against top players of the Ladies European Tour.

Schwerin/Vorbeck – The new tournament format was positively received last year. In late summer this year, top male players of the Legends Tour will once again play against the concentrated woman-power of the best over-45 proettes of the Ladies European Tour. The ladies’ trio, Elisabeth “Lisl” Esterl, Patricia Beliard and Catrin Nilsmark, have again confirmed their participation; the All Time Money List is decisive for this. Among the men, spectators can look forward to top-class players such as US Open winner (2005) Michael Campbell, Stephen Dodd as WINSTONgolf Senior Open winner (2018) and winner of the Senior British Open Championship (2021), and Roger Chapman, two-time Senior Major
Champion in 2012 (U.S. Senior Open and Senior PGA Championship). The German golfer Elisabeth Esterl is already motivated as she prepares for her second participation: “I am thrilled to have been invited to the WINSTONgolf Senior Open 2024
again this year. I felt very comfortable at WINSTONgolf last year, and look forward to this year’s special event. I can hardly wait!”  Tournament Director Stefanie Merchel says: “We are delighted that we were able to establish the new format. It was a highlight well worth seeing, especially for the spectators. The top players gave the tournament weekend a completely different drive – in the truest sense of the word – and the fact that all three have confirmed their participation again speaks for itself. We are hoping for an even bigger field of women this year, and that the ladies will be among the front runners. We are keeping our fingers crossed for this, and will really cheer them on.”

The special tournament mode: Dunhill format
Three rounds will be played on the WINSTONopen Course without a cut, i.e. one professional player will play with one amateur as a team of two on Friday and Saturday. The final round on Sunday will be contested by the 60 professionals amongst themselves. There will be combined scoring across all three rounds, so the pros and proettes will compete directly against one another. As usual, the ladies will play from the front tees. The total prize money is EUR 450,000, from which the winner will receive a cheque for EUR 67,500.

Admission is free for spectators on all three event days, allowing them to rub shoulders with male and female professional players on the driving range and later on the course. Sufficient free car parking is available on each day. As the main tournament sponsor, bicycle manufacturer Kalkhoff will be on site with its promotional truck, and will present the latest e-bike models - which can also be test-ridden.

WINSTONgolf: A Golfer’s Paradise in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Top golf architect Dipl.-Ing. Holger Rengstorf designed the 18-hole WINSTONopen championship course with great attention to detail on a total area of 110 hectares. With its 6,305 metres, the parkland course is characterised by the rolling hills of the local terminal moraine landscape. The challenging course with its well-guarded greens was given a redesign of the bunkers for its 20th anniversary in 2022. Sensitive, intelligent interventions reduced the number of sand hazards from 80 to 49 - thus sustainably improving the WINSTONopen and making it even more fun to play for all golfers. In 2023, the green of hole 16 was repositioned to increase the quality of the green through more air movement and light at the new location. The last time WINSTONopen hosted the WINSTONgolf Senior Open was in its anniversary year.
